# How do I request a read receipt?

### Request a read receipt

The**read receipt** allows you to ask readers to confirm that they have read a post, and to track who has done so.

#### Enable read receipts

When creating a post in News, enable the **Read receipt** (“Request confirmation”) in the post options, in the same place as the Likes and Comments options.

### Reader side

On a post with a read receipt, the reader has a button **“I have read it”**. By clicking it, they confirm to the author that they have read it.

The author of the post cannot acknowledge receipt of their own post.

### Author side

The author sees the number of people who have confirmed reading it (for example, “5 people have acknowledged receipt”). By opening this detail, they can:

* **Show the people who have acknowledged receipt**
* See the number of people still **waiting**

#### Follow up with readers

As long as some readers have not confirmed, the author can click **Follow up** to send them another notification. A confirmation shows how many people will be followed up with before sending.

When all readers have confirmed, no further follow-up is possible: “Everyone has acknowledged receipt.”

### What the assistant can do

The assistant cannot request or confirm a read receipt directly. It can explain how it works and guide you to the News app.
