# How do you create a community?

### Introduction

A community brings together employees around a **site**, a **service** or a **theme**. There are two types of communities:

* **Manual** : you select the employees who are part of it yourself.
* **Dynamic** : the members are determined **automatically** from one or more **services and locations**. The list updates itself whenever employees' assignments change.

Creation takes place in **three steps**.

### Step 1 — Information

Enter:

* the **last name** of the community (required);
* a **description** (optional), to explain the purpose of the community and what is shared there.

### Step 2 — Members

Choose how the members are defined, using the selector **Manual / Dynamic**.

**Manual** : search for and select employees one by one. You can add or remove them at any time.

**Dynamic** : choose one or more **services** and/or **locations**. Employees matching the selected services **and** locations will be members; the list is updated automatically when assignments change.

### Step 3 — First content

Choose the first content created automatically with the community. You can modify it later:

* a **section**, to organize the community's posts;
* a **conversation**, a group discussion for members;
* a **folder**, to share documents.

Validate to create the community.

### After creation

You will be redirected to the new community's space.

For a **dynamic**, adding members happens in the background: the members list may be completed a few moments after creation.

### What the assistant can do

Creating a community is done in Steeple: the assistant does not create it for you. Once the community is created, however — with Administration scope — it can **add or remove members**, and it can guide you to the creation page.
