# Custom assistants

In addition to the assistant **Steeple** available by default, an organization can create its own **custom assistants**. Each custom assistant responds based on a selected set of documents (for example, an "HR" assistant that relies on human resources documents).

## The assistant gallery

The page **Assistants** is presented as **cards** the custom assistants accessible to the user. The assistant **Steeple** by default is not listed there: it remains available at any time from the conversation assistant selector. When no custom assistant is available, the page shows "No custom assistant".

Click a card to activate the corresponding assistant and start a conversation. The last assistant used is remembered for future visits.

## Change assistant

During a conversation, it is possible to switch to another assistant:

* Open the assistant selector from the bottom of the conversation panel (**Change assistant**)
* Choose the desired assistant from the list

Only assistants the user has access to are offered.

## Create a custom assistant

Creating an assistant is **reserved for administrators**.

* From the page **Assistants**, click on **New assistant**
* Fill in the assistant's information:
  * **Name** (required) — for example, "HR Assistant"
  * **Description** (optional) — in one sentence, what this assistant is for
  * **Who can interact with the assistant** — the assistant's audience
  * **Assistant resources** — the folders and documents the assistant relies on to answer
* Confirm to create the assistant

## Define the audience

The field **Who can interact with the assistant** determines who can see and use the assistant:

* **Entire organization** : all collaborators have access
* **One or more communities** : only members of the selected communities have access

## Edit or delete an assistant

From a custom assistant card, an action menu (reserved for administrators) allows you to:

* **Configure** : change the assistant's name, description, audience, and resources
* **Delete** : permanently remove the assistant

The assistant **Steeple** by default cannot be edited or deleted.

## Recipes

Each assistant can offer **recipes**, ready-to-use use cases. Details are described in the article [Assistant recipes](/en/assistant-ia/assistant-ia-recettes.md).
